Drugs and Legal Highs

It is likely you have heard of the different types of drugs. Cannabis, ecstasy, heroin, cocaine and amphetamines just to name a few.

 Cannabis – No Big Deal?

joint_bg.pngThere is a perception among young people that cannabis is less harmful than other drugs and as a result it is often the drug of choice for those experimenting in drug use for the first time.

Cannabis is a Class B drug – it can do a lot more than get you high and give you the giggles – it can lead to serious health implications.

  • Negative psychological development
  • A higher than average risk of developing a psychotic illness such as schizophrenia
  • The increased possibility of psychiatric illness
  • Adverse affects on heart rate & blood pressure.

 ‘Legal Highs’

Psychoactive substances or ‘legal highs’ are types of drugs designed to mimic the effects of controlled drugs. Just because they are described as ‘legal’ does not mean they are safe.

You’re more likely to be arrested if you’re smoking it in public or if you’ve been caught before. If you’re under 18, your parent or guardian will be contacted too.
